The Four Dharmas of Gampopa

A teaching by Very Ven. Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche – Transcriptions of the English translation:

  1. First Dharma of GampopaMay the mind go to the Dharma – how to listen well to the Dharma; cause, condition, and basis for the mind going to the Dharma; relying on a spiritual guide (Kalyanamitra) and receiving instructions; releasing attachment through meditation on impermanence; ten actions to avoid or give up.
  2. Second Dharma of GampopaMay the Dharma follow the path – three ways one’s Dharma follows the path (three levels of beings); developing Bodhicitta motivation; Refuge in the Three Jewels; vows and commitments; the Bodhisattva Vow; the Four Immeasurables.
  3. Third Dharma of GampopaMay delusion be dispelled from the path – why we are wandering in samsara; how to free ourselves of the mind’s defilements; Four Powers of Purification; the Three Jewels and The Three Roots; the Ordinary and Special Preliminaries; how to gain realizations and experience on the path.
  4. Fourth Dharma of GampopaMay delusion arise as wisdom – dispelling delusion according to the Sutra tradition (the Six Perfections), and the Vajrayana (Generation and Completion); gathering the accumulation of merit through perfections that have an object: generosity, correct conduct, and patience; gathering the accumulation of wisdom through perfections that are objectless: meditation and wisdom; then the perfection that enables the other five: diligence; Generation stage and pure perception, Completion Stage and emptiness.
